Entertaining and Informative

Our tour took us by bus to Muir Woods & then dropped us off in Sausalito where we caught a ferry back to the City. Our tour guide, John, was both entertaining and informative, which made the trip enjoyable. We were allowed to spend 90 minutes at Muir Woods…enough to whet our appetites to go back in the future… Catching the ferry back to Pier 39 was easy and the ride a treat. I recommend the bus over and ferry back to anyone going to Muir Woods & Sausalito.

Excellent Value

Our day on an Incredible Adventure with Will as our guide was the best day we spent in San Francisco. The tour was timed to avoid crowds so there were few tourists when we arrived at Muir Woods. Each winery we visited had excellent choices of wine to sample.
We never felt rushed during the tour, and all of our party felt we got excellent value for the money we paid for the tour. Will was an efficient driver who supplied just enough information about what we were seeing and doing. I also appreciated the use of ecologically sound buses.
I will definitely take another tour with Incredible Adventures the next time I’m in San Francisco and highly recommend it for others.

Sample Itinerary

8:15-9:00am: Pick up from San Francisco hotels
9:00am – 10:15am: After pickup, head north across the Golden Gate Bridge, which offers sweeping views of San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the city skyline. We wind through the coastal mountains of the Marin Headlands, past Mt. Tamalpais (the highest point in the North Bay region) on our way to Muir Woods National Monument.
Approx. 10:30am: Arrive at Muir Woods National Monument.
10:30am – 11:45am: The coastal redwood is the tallest tree species in the world. These trees only thrive in Northern California and Oregon, due to the thick fog that blankets the west coast in the summer months. In 1908, Senator William Kent and his wife donated their land to the state, and President Theodore Roosevelt designated it as a federally protected area. Muir Woods National Monument is the only surviving stand of old-growth redwood forest in the Bay Area. You will have 1 – 1 1/2 hours to wander amongst these towering giants. The sights, sounds, and smells of this living museum are sure to reconnect you with a natural world that was almost lost.
12:00-1:30pm: Reconnect with the guide and group, and begin your journey to the Sonoma Wine Country. Traveling north, you will see the beautiful valleys where fantastic wines have been produced since before California was a part of the Union. The landscape of rolling hills laced with rows of grapevines is impressive and provides a romantic backdrop for memorable photographs.
1:30pm: Stop for a picnic lunch at a winery (not included), or grab a bite in the historic Sonoma town square. In the town square (time permitting), you will have a chance to see the Mission San Francisco de Solano, the northernmost California mission, sample cheeses at Sonoma Jack’s Cheese Factory, and peruse the boutique shops of this quaint downtown.
2:30pm-5:00pm: Spend the afternoon wine tasting around the Sonoma Wine Country. Sample a variety of white, red, and dessert wines at wineries such as Homewood, Larson, Cline Cellars, and Robledo, among others (some tasting fees may apply). On the way back, we’ll also make a stop in Sausalito, so you can take in the charm of the houseboats and catch a view of the city from another angle.
5:00pm-6:00pm: A stop at the Golden Gate Bridge is a must-do if you’ve never witnessed the awe-inspiring view of San Francisco from the Marin Headlands.
6:00pm-6:30pm: End with a drop-off at your San Francisco hotel in time for dinner!

**Sample Itineraries: Please note that due to conditions (special events, traffic) in Muir Woods and Wine Country and the small size of our vehicles/groups, we can allow our guides the flexibility to tailor your itinerary to best suit the needs of the group. While we guarantee that we’ll do our best to provide you with all of the highlights within this itinerary (conditions permitting), we do not guarantee them in this specific order. **

8:45am –  9:30am: The day begins with a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, which offers sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the skyline of San Francisco. We wind our way through the coastal mountains of the Marin Headlands, along the base of Mt. Tamalpais (the highest point in the North Bay region) on our way to Muir Woods National Monument where you will have 1-1 1/2 hrs to walk around.
9:45am – 11:15am: Arrive at Muir Woods National Monument. The coastal redwood is the tallest tree species in the world. These trees only thrive in Northern California and Oregon, due to the thick fog that blankets the west coast in the summer months. In 1908, Senator William Kent and his wife donated their land to the state and President Theodore Roosevelt designated it as a federally protected area. Muir Woods is the only surviving stand of old-growth forest in the Bay Area. Wandering amongst these towering giants, the sights, sounds and smells of this living museum are sure to reconnect you with a natural world that was almost lost forever.
11:45am – 12:30pm: From Muir Woods it’s a short drive to Sausalito, a picturesque town that starts with hilltop mansions and spills down to boutique shops and cafes along the waterfront. Then, loop around for the return trip to San Francisco.

Depending on our passenger numbers and guest needs, your tour may be moved to a larger vehicle, or operated by a preferred partner company. In this case, there may be slight differences to the itinerary and times listed above. We will communicate exact details to you in your confirmation. ** [/tab] [tab title=”Take the Ferry”]

Take the ferry back to San Francisco* and spend more time exploring Sausalito at your own pace!

Sausalito is located to the north of the Golden Gate Bridge and began as a hub for car, ferry and rail traffic to reach the city. After World War II, its focus on industry shifted and it is now a wealthy and artistic residential and tourist area. Here you will see houseboats, multi-million dollar homes along the cliffs, and many small boutique shops.
You can add the ferry tickets to your tour, and the driver will drop you off before heading back to the city. Simply choose the PLUS FERRY tour option during the check-out process, and the tickets will be provided to you on the tour.
Taking the ferry back from Sausalito will afford you amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island, Alcatraz Island, and the San Francisco city skyline from the north. Don’t forget your jacket, though – it can get chilly out on the bay! You’ll disembark the ferry in the Fisherman’s Wharf/Embarcadero area where you can easily hail a cab or take the cablecar back to your SF hotel.
*Tickets are an additional $11 for all ages and are not included in the base tour price. Ferry return is subject to availability. [/tab] [tab title=”Reviews/Testimonials”] [testimonial_rotator id=”9330″ format=”list”] [/tab][/tabgroup]

[tab title=”ALCATRAZ”]Alcatraz Island Tour - guard towerAlcatraz is a must-see for any traveler visiting San Francisco.

Your Alcatraz ticket will be arranged for the evening of the first day of your two day package (approximately 6:30pm for the night tour).

Taking the ferry to Alcatraz will afford you amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island, Alcatraz Island, and the San Francisco city skyline from the north. The vessel does a complete circle around the island before docking and includes a guide pointing out different sections/buildings on Alcatraz Island from a vantage point not seen during the day. When you land on the island, you’ll get a short history of Alcatraz, and then head up into the prison!

You’ll be equipped with an audio tour titled “Doing Time”, in which you’ll hear interviews from former inmates and learn more history about Alcatraz (available in 11 languages). The Alcatraz Night Tour also includes special interpretive tours and access to areas of the island that are closed during the day.

You may explore for as long as you want (the ferry departs for the mainland approximately every 30-40 minutes). The tour generally takes people about two and a half hours. Don’t forget your jacket – it can get chilly out on the bay!

Alcatraz Info:

  • For security purposes, a government-issued photo ID is required for all guests to board the Alcatraz ferry
  • Alcatraz audio tour is available in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Mandarin, Portuguese and Korean

[tab title=”Itinerary”]

Sample Itinerary

8:00am – 9:00am: Pick up from San Francisco hotels
9:00am –  10:00am: The day begins with a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, which offers sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the skyline of San Francisco. We wind our way through the coastal mountains of the Marin Headlands, along the base of Mt. Tamalpais (the highest point in the North Bay region) on our way to Muir Woods National Monument where you will have 1-1 1/2 hrs to walk around.
10:00am – 11:30am: Arrive at Muir Woods National Monument.
12:00pm – 12:30pm: From Muir Woods it’s a short drive to Sausalito, a picturesque town that starts with hilltop mansions and spills down to boutique shops and cafes along the waterfront. The pier offers a panoramic view of the San Francisco skyline, the Bay Bridge, and Angel Island. Take it all in with a 20 minute in-coach narrated tour and then hop off the coach and linger at one of the sidewalk cafes, shop for one-of-a-kind souvenirs, or sample freshly caught seafood before taking the ferry back to the city on your own schedule – just make sure you’re back to pick up your Alcatraz tickets!
2:20-4:00pm: Catch the Sausalito ferry back across the bay to Fisherman’s wharf; you may choose from a 2:20 or 3:40 ferry.
4:15pm-5:30pm: Check out the awesome exhibits and friendly fishes at the Aquarium of the Bay at Pier 39.
5:30pm-6:00pm: Make your way to Pier 33 in Fisherman’s Wharf to pick up your Alcatraz Night Tour tickets from the Group Services Window and meet the ferry. You may pick up your tickets any time the day of your tour, but they MUST be claimed no later than 30 minutes prior to the tour departure (6pm for 6:30pm departure). You will need a valid ID and your paid voucher to pick up the tickets.
Alcatraz Ferry: Board your ferry and ride across the San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz Island. See the San Francisco Skyline, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Angel Island from the ferry! Take a loop around the island for exclusive views. Depart the ferry at Alcatraz and follow your guide up into the prison.
Alcatraz Prison: Enjoy the audio tour “Doing Time” with commentary from inmates and guards that experienced the prison when it was operational. You’ll have access to areas of the island that are not open to the public on the day tours.
Back to Land: Once back at Fisherman’s Wharf, you may explore the area and grab some food, go shopping or sightseeing, or head back to your hotel for a good night’s sleep.
